Forge work rooms
Forge work rooms
In these two rooms, hundreds of pieces from the collection of forging and metalwork are exhibited: doorknobs, keys, locks, keyholes, hinges, boxes, scissors, and irons, among others.
The interest in the preservation of these objects has its origin in the recovery and revaluation of the crafts of the late 19th century, especially during Modernism. Frederic Marès, who continued this tradition, as well as that of the painter Santiago Rusiñol (1861-1921) in the Cau Ferrat de Sitges, was also interested in the so-called artistic irons .
Some pieces stand out, such as a plaque from a building in the Cistercian monastery of Poblet or a collection of shears from Extremadura, the small set of Roman and medieval keys, the apprenticeship work - carried out by aspiring master locksmiths, and in which they demonstrated their technical and artistic skills - as well as a standing lectern with an eagle which, despite corresponding to a medieval typology, responds to a recreation of the century XIX
