Golden reflection collection
Golden reflection collection
The unique golden reflection technique, the result of three firings, has its origins in the Middle East in the Islamic world of the 9th century and was successfully developed in the Spanish kingdoms from the late Middle Ages. The Valencian city of Manises was one of the production centers that developed this technique more and better and exported its products all over Europe until the 15th century. Subsequently, production declined in international markets, but it remained very active in the immediate area throughout the 17th and 18th centuries.
The Museum's extensive gold reflection collection, composed mainly of dishes, but also of water fountains and honey pots, comes mostly from Manises, followed by those from Triana (Seville) and to a lesser extent from the Catalan centres, Reus and Barcelona, and from Muel (Aragón).
