Hall of faith
Hall of faith
Frederic Marès dedicated a space to faith, where objects linked to the religious practice of Catholicism and a part dedicated to Judaism are exhibited.
The room houses reliquaries, scapulars, devotional reliefs, agnus dei of wax, crosses, Caravaca crosses, pilgrim souvenir: of Santiago de Compostela, or of the Holy Land, in mother-of-pearl or olive wood. Objects linked to the celebration of Mass: censers, bells, turnips, hyssop and missals, or related to the ornament of the altar —tin vases—, or to religious images —crowns, diadems, nimbus and halos—, or for the officiant’s habit —cloak and chasuble brooches—, or badges of confraternities and congregations.
Also objects used for the collection of money destined for charity, such as petition basins, alms boxes and collecting chapels; or the pellofes, coins for internal use by some communities. Among the most popular pieces, the collection of votive offerings stands out, objects with which the faithful thanked or asked for a favor from the deity, painted on the table or in relief and made of silver.
