Joan Abelló, the guest collection
The sculptor Frederic Marès (1893-1991) and the painter Joan Abelló (1923-2008), in addition to donating their collections to their cities -Barcelona and Mollet del Vallès, respectively- and seeing their dream of having a Museum come true they left in writing their illusions and their memories in two autobiographical books . The fascinating world of collecting and antiques. Memoirs of the life of a collector by Frederic Marès was published in 1977. In addition to glossing over the nature of the collector and collecting the vocation for objects and antiques, the sculptor dedicates a prominent chapter to the suitcase he bought on his first trip to Paris and which he always took with him on his work trips.
Joan Abelló also made traveling around the world a necessity, to paint and to expand his collection. It was after the death of Carles Pellicer, his teacher, that he wrote Tea time . He inherited some works from him but above all a way of understanding and experiencing art that he then projected in his house in Mollet. Where today we relive his passion for all kinds of objects, from fans, clocks, ceramics, glass, toys, hat pins,..., in a collection of collections that evoke his particular universe.
