The capital originally crowns a column, a shaft, like the top of a tree crowns its trunk. In this exhibition you can see a series of medieval capitals that date from the 9th to the 14th centuries, and range from the Emiral and Caliphate world, of extremely refined execution, to the Romanesque stage and the Gothic world.
Most of these capitals belong to the Frederic Marès Museum. It is worth noting the research work that has made it possible to gather some families of capitals to study and assess them together.
