Temporary exhibition 'Emotions'
Temporary exhibition 'Emotions'
The exhibition opened to the public on November 30, 2023 Emotions Images and gestures of the past and present .
From sadness to joy: these are the two emotions that the exhibition shows; the relationship and transit from one to the other through a selection of sculptures from the 12th to the 15th century from the collections of the Frederic Marés Museum in dialogue with some works from the 20th and 21st centuries. Of the latter, two video art creations are exhibited by Bill Viola, a fundamental contemporary artistic reference, who with his cycle The Passions he worked on emotions based on the medieval and Renaissance artistic tradition; two outstanding works of informalism and spatialism, by Antoni Tàpies and Lucio Fontana, and finally, a light installation by Javier Riera, created in the 21st century.
The figure of Mary, the mother of God, representative of humanity, is the common thread of the three exhibition areas: I. Mary's pain, II. The wound of Christ and III. The glory of Mary.
The aim of the exhibition is to reflect on how an art far removed from our time can acquire new life by putting it in relation to the contemporary world and art based on emotions common to different historical times.
