Programmes and initiatives

These are some of the main policies, projects and actions driven by Barcelona City Council to transform the food system towards a healthier, fairer and more sustainable model.

In this document you will find all the sustainable food projects and policies promoted during 2021.

  • Agròpolis

    A collaborative public-community space to transform Barcelona's food system based on the values of food sovereignty and agroecology.

  • Green Commerce

    Programme to promote and raise the profile of local, organic and direct products from producers and fish markets at the stalls of the city's 38 food markets.

  • Public Food Procurement Guidelines

    The City Council incorporates environmental and social criteria in the contracting of services such as canteens, catering and vending, channelling public purchasing power to promote more sustainable food.

  • Terra i gust

    This is the Festa de l'Alimentació Sostenible, a space to enjoy music, food and drink in a more conscious way, within the framework of the Mercè festivities.

  • Educational programmes

    A public-community space that brings together organisations that work for healthy, fair and sustainable food, planned on the basis of food sovereignty and agroecology.

  • Mercats de Forquilla

    Cycle of showcookings in the city's markets to give a voice to sustainable, traditional and innovative Catalan cuisine.

  • Gastronòmic Fòrum Barcelona

    The benchmark show for hospitality and gastronomy professionals with a clear focus on innovation, sustainability and culinary creativity.

  • Mercat de Pagès

    Do you know the Mercats de pagès in the city? You’ll find 8 markets spread across the city with locally sourced products.
