Nature Plan 2030: award for good practice in biodiversity and economic promotion

Climate emergency. The municipal strategy is set to add 160 hectares of greenery to the city over fifteen years.

The municipal strategy aims to add a further 160 hectares of greenery to the city in the next fifteen years, safeguarding people’s well-being and tackling the effects of the climate emergency. The Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces has also recognised the Citizen Observatory for Urban Butterflies as a finalist in the fauna category.

The plan covers the period from 2015 to 2030 and sets the goal of increasing urban greenery and improving people’s access to it, consolidating the ecological management of nature and respecting the essence of species, conserving biodiversity, improving habits to protect species and promoting people’s enjoyment and care of green areas.

What specific actions are contained in the plan?

  • One additional square metre of greenery per inhabitant.
  • Additional 100 hectares of greened up surface space.
  • Creation of 100 biodiversity shelters.
  • Double the number of people participating in nature activities.
  • Launch of 40 new projects in the “Mans al verd” programme.

An additional 160 hectares of greenery are planned in the city to meet the Climate Commitment 2015.
