Somorrostro beach is about 522 meters long and located between the Gas breakwater and the Moll de Marina pier.

Among other values this beach exemplifies the recovery of historical memory on the city seafront. Not long ago, this stretch of coastline, together with part of Barceloneta beach and the beaches now known as Nova Icària and Bogatell, was the site of the Somorrostro shanty town, where some 15,000 people lived in very precarious conditions.

Somorrostro beach is currently one of the most emblematic beaches in the city.

Somorrostro beach provides easy access and enjoyment for everyone, with special attention paid to those whose mobility is limited in some way: the beach features reserved parking areas from which it is easy to reach the dry beach, visual and tactile signage and information, adapted toilets, wooden walkways that reach the water as close as possible (although, under no circumstances will they ever touch the water, as its currents could detach the module) and adapted showers with chairs. The public transport has also been adapted to provide easier access.

Centre de la Platja (Beach Centre)

Located under the Somorrostro arcade in front of the Hospital del Mar, the Beach Centre is an environmental education facility dedicated to promoting the city seafront. From March to September, this centre organises all kinds of activities for all ages: workshops, routes, storytelling, visits, talks and games.

The Beach Centre also offers coastal information and consulting services, and lends newspapers, books, magazines, materials for playing games in the sand and sports equipment. Guided tours of the maritime exhibition located at the centre are provided on request.
