Repairing slopes around the Escola El Polvorí
Once the work on the playground and exterior wall of the Escola El Polvorí is complete, work will be carried out to remedy and stabilise the slopes surrounding the school. This intervention by Barcelona City Council's Department for the Maintenance of Road Structures and Unique Urban Spaces will cost 17,000 euro and will be completed within a couple of weeks.
The work started this week with the removal of herbaceous plants and bushes. Following this the slopes will be remedied, bringing down any unstable blocks. To prevent any accidental rockfall or even landslides, in an area that is just above the rest of the neighbourhood of El Polvorí, a galvanised steel grid mat will be fitted and anchored to the ground with rods and bolts.
Since last summer, and throughout 2024, work is being carried out to stabilise the slopes in around a dozen locations on Montjuïc mountain. On all these slopes, the aim is to prevent landslides and rockfall, and make it safe for people to pass.
