Bald-cypress

Passeig de Pujades, 16

Observations:
This is an evergreen pine tree with unique characteristics among all native species and ornamental cultivated species. It is native to the south eastern marshlands of the United States, in an environment of oxygen-poor water, and emits breathing roots which rise above the water level. Its branches are furrowed at the base of the trunk. The specimen at Parc de la Ciutadella is the most spectacular of the specimens that exist in ponds and lakes in Barcelona. It is a species of botanical interest.
