Red-leaf photinia

Ronda del Guinardó, 33

Observations: Native to China and Japan, this species was introduced into Europe in 1804. During the second half of last century, many were planted in the gardens of Barcelona, but today it is hard to find any adult specimens. In the old romantic garden of Parc de les Aigües in Guinardó, with the atmosphere of the old garden still largely conserved, it has developed without obstacles. It would be unlikely to find another red-leaf photinia like this specimen anywhere other than in a private garden.
