Photographs are at the heart of a charming show for only five spectators that transforms memories and creates new ones.

Back in 2015 and 2015, you may have seen the name Xavier Bobés in the lists of award winners announced by all kinds of festivals (from the Butaca Awards to the Critics’ Awards, including a prize at the BE Festival, the Birmingham European Theatre Festival). Or if you were lucky, you saw him live presenting the show that premièred in 2015 at the Grec Festival de Barcelona, which put him on the Catalan and European performance map: Cosas que se olvidan fácilmente [Things that are easily forgotten]. We say you were lucky if you saw that show because with a capacity of just five spectators per performance, this tiny wonder did not offer enough functions for everyone who wanted to see it. In fact, word-of-mouth proved to be the best way to learn about this big little secret in the guise of a montage made of memory, forgetfulness and images on paper. This year’s Grec is offering the possibility to bring back a little theatrical gem that is so fascinating to those who see it that it is still alive and well after more than 1,350 shows. Xavier Bobés is now inviting Francesco Sinopoli to plunge into this universe of boxes and little things.

Appearing in its latest editions of the Grec Festival de Barcelona, the creator of the company Playground, Xavier Bobés, has often presented stage creations working with objects in venues as unusual as the shows he produces. He manages to release them from their banal, everyday nature and bedeck them in magic and poetry. Author of eight shows to date, Bobés has appeared at the Grec alone (Cosas que se olvidan fácilmente, Grec 2015, and Corpus, el 2020) and with the object detective agency El Solar, created with Jomi Oligor and Shaday Larios (Cuaderno de campo, Grec 2018). The artist's latest shows include El mar: Visió d’uns nens que no l’han vist mai (TNC, 2022), which is still on tour.
The show forms part of a series that the Grec 2024 Festival de Barcelona is dedicating to the creator Xavier Bobés.

I would like to thank the Festival Grec for this invitation, which enables me to put on, in my home town, two shows that have been seminal in my career as a creator: El cap als núvols, 20 years after it premièred, and Cosas que se olvidan fácilmente. Just as objects can take on a new life when they exchange hands, I trust that both works will now gain a new life on-stage thanks to Marc and Francesco.
