Women's room
The Women's Room is surely the best example of Frederic Marès' will to evoke the ways of life of the past, especially of the bourgeois woman of the 19th century. The unique space, the dim lighting, the great quantity, diversity and beauty of the objects, allow us to enjoy a special and emotional atmosphere that invites us to take an unusual journey through time.
Hundreds of fans of various shapes and materials and for all occasions, gloves and bags of silk, glass beads, crocheted, pillow lace handkerchiefs, combs and headbands, well-decorated boxes for storing precious or intimate objects, jewelry such as earrings, pendants and bracelets, one for each occasion - even for mourning - as a sign of remembrance through the hairwork of the loved ones, such as pins, perfume bottles, bouquet holders and French fashion foils, which allowed role models to spread throughout Europe.
Likewise, the room hosts other collections such as portraits of bourgeois; a series of framed scratch card compositions, called tables turned ; the collection of charms and rattles; that of scribe's scissors; that of snuffers -scissors to cut the wicks of candles-, or that of nutcrackers and pine nutcrackers, among others.
