LA BALLARINA [THE BALLERINA]
Antigua i Barbuda
Catalonia
Theatre of Machines
All audiences
Antigua i Barbuda is celebrating 20 years of performing accompanied by the machines and figures that have inspired admiration all over the world. These constructions evoke the ingenuity of those visionary artists of the past who invented fantastical universes and made use of objects considered useless to reinvent them in a surprising, theatrical way. These castoff materials actually harbour a huge potential for artistic creation.
One example is the classical ballerina from a music box, who will dance in Joan Miró Park to the music of Pia Nielsen, a composer and actress in the group. The Ballerina is both a fragile and impressive figure: she is more than 5 metres tall and will perform with gentle, tempered, almost hypnotic movements to open and close the activities in Joan Miró Park.
The Ballerina was created by Jordà Ferré, the founder of Antigua i Barbuda, who shows that beauty and mechanisms are equally important in this exceptional company.
Duration: 30 minutes.
