The new Carrer de Pi i Margall devotes 70% of its spaces to pedestrians

Following the remodelling project, the social and shopping street connecting the districts of Gràcia and Horta-Guinardó is greener, friendlier and geared towards local residents. The new design invites people to stroll and spend time there, with 70% of the street given over to pedestrians and four new areas for members of the public, next to Pl. Joanic and at the junctions with the streets of Alegre de Dalt, Pau Alsina and Sardenya.

Pi i Margall is a street that prioritises sustainable and local mobility, with a speed limit of 30 km/h, and invites people to stroll there. New lighting has been installed, asphalt has been replaced by other surfaces such as natural stone and there are now more spaces with seating and more pedestrian crossings. The pavements are wider, between 5 and 12 metres at some points, and one of them is only interrupted by the junction with C/ Sardenya, meaning it is practically continuous between Pl. Joanic and Ronda del Guinardó.

While the drought restrictions mean it hasn’t been possible to plant all the vegetation planned, the surface for parterres has increased from 370 to 3,270 square metres and an additional sixty trees have been planted. The street is a new green corridor that members of the public were able to discover first hand in the celebration open to everybody on Sunday, 17 December, coinciding with Sunday opening hours for shops and businesses.
