The route for La Volta 2024 will be varied and demanding, with seven stages taking in seven Catalan counties: Gironès, La Selva, Ripollès, Pallars Sobirà, Baix Llobregat and Barcelonès. The mountains once again take centre stage for the event, with three mountain finish lines: Vallter, Port Ainé and Queralt.

The big names in La Volta

Notable competitors in La Volta 2024 include:

• Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates), reigning champion of the Tour de France and twice winner of the Volta a Catalunya.
• Sepp Kuss (Jumbo-Visma), third in the Tour de France 2023 and eighth in the Volta a Catalunya 2023.
• Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers), winner of the Tour de France 2018 and second in the Volta a Catalunya 2023.
• Egan Bernal (Ineos Grenadiers), winner of the Tour de France 2019 and sixth in the Volta a Catalunya 2023.

Demanding mountain route 

The first stage starts and finishes in Sant Feliu de Guïxols, while the second stage brings the first mountain finish line in Vallter, covering a distance of 186.5 kilometres. The third stage covers a distance of 176.7 kilometres and finishes in Port Ainé, while the fourth covers 169 kilometres and finishes in Lleida. The fifth stage starts in Altafulla and finishes in Viladecans The Style Outlets, covering 167.3 kilometres, while the eagerly awaited sixth stage arrives at the sanctuary in Queralt. Covering 154.7 kilometres, this stage sets off from Berga, which as been part of the route for La Volta since 1959.

The seventh and final stage starts and finishes in Barcelona. The Catalan capital will see riders set off from Av. Maria Cristina for a stage covering 145.3 kilometres, running through the inland area of Baix Llobregat and climbing the Coll de Creu de l’Ordal before returning to the city of Barcelona to tackle six laps of the final circuit and climbing up to Montjuïc Castle. A magical scenario in the history of La Volta and international cycling, offering a top-class public sports event to round off the 103rd edition of La Volta with plenty of emotions in store.

Once again, this year’s edition of La Volta promises to be an exciting occasion where the mountains take centre stage, with three mountain finish lines putting riders’ stamina to the test.
