In terms of infringements, the following cases will be reported:

  • Failure to correctly use seatbelts (having checked first that these are in working order). Checks will be made to ensure that children measuring up to a height of 135 centimetres use a certified system which complies with current regulations.
  • With helmets, vehicles will be immobilised if riders are not using them. These checks also apply to quads. Riders should remember that the responsible use of helmets by passengers is always the responsibility of the person driving or riding the vehicle.

The overall goal of the campaign is to reduce the number of victims and the severity of injuries. According to the latest accident figures, 8,753 people sustained injuries in 2023, some 3.1% lower than the previous year, and there were 20 deaths, 3 fewer than in 2022.

Road accident victims can be avoided. We need greater awareness so that all parties get involved in reaching the goals of halving the number of deaths and serious injuries, as set out in the Road Safety Strategy 2030, with a view to achieving zero deaths by 2050.
